Well Saturday turned into a "wash out". It started raining at 10am as forecast and did not stop.
I set the table up and it looked nice and I had some compliments but so few people through the door.
Last year it was so busy but unfortunately that was not the case this time
This time there was no Santa, no Christmas music, raffle, Christmas food or lucky dip stalls and everyone noted that. It just seemed rather flat and those that did venture out to visit seemed few and far between.
The fair was due to be between 10-4 but by 2.30 some stalls had already given in , packed up and gone. I packed up at 3 as by then no one new had been through the doors for ages. Last time I didn't get home until 5pm . A few regular stall holders said they doubt they will be back unless the organising and advertisement is better, but you can't book the weather and it was bad so as far I could see that was the major cause. I do think a "Santa" is always important at fairs and some music too. Little children that came really had little to see or do ..a shame. I helped at fairs at the kids old schools and know it is hard work organising these events so it was a shame but these things happen.
Today I am busy baking cupcakes for a cake stall, Little Miss' unit are holding in the main school tomorrow. I am also helping run the stall . The unit are raising funds for the new garden in the unit which at the moment is small and a muddy strip!
Another busy week , another fair but this is for 2 hours in the evening, again I don't know how successful this will be.
I have been wrapping swaps and presents but nothing yet ready to post, but I imagine they will be by the weekend . Then Christmas cards to top and tail and then the decorations.
The dining room needs to be emptied of craft stuff now as I don't intend to make anymore Christmas stuff as i want to just do some sewing or cross stitch now.
See you soon
Too bad the weather didn't co-operate for you on Saturday. What an amazing display of home made things. You and Little Miss have been really busy. Hope the next one has a better turnout.
ReplyDeleteThank you..will let you know.
DeleteSo sorry to read this. It does sound as if the actual attractions to support the Fair weren't in place and of course, heavy rain is always a killer. It happens with antiques etc too - we drove all the way to Bristol back in August, and took the grand sum of £26 which didn't even cover the diesel, let alone the big chunk for the pitch. The weather had been atrocious then and lots of people on holiday I dare say. Did this same fair again on Sunday and fared much better.
ReplyDeleteI hope your other fair goes well for you, and I don't blame you wanting to sew something for yourself for a change. Enjoy. (As I am with the x-stitch designs in that book you sent. Oh my!)
I think these things can be a bit "hit and miss"..never mind these things happen at least it was only a hop and skip away.xxx
DeleteHi Maria
ReplyDeleteYour stall looks lovely what a shame you did not get the custom especially after all that hard effort. Fingers crossed for your next one. Always need a Santa at a Christmas fair. I think you deserve some me time now on the crafting. Take care and continue to lead BB astray. Take care. Pattypan x
Lovely BB I will try !!! Me sewing now when I get the chance..looking forward to it.xx
DeleteSuch a shame. Your stall looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you.xx
Deleteoh dear x but then the weather really was foul all weekend .. at least you don't have to make more stuff for the next one xx Good luck with the next one ... maybe the weather will be kinder x
ReplyDeleteLost a bit of the mojo but will go...in for a penny
DeleteWhat a shame and your stall looked so lovely and Christmassy, too. Will you provide feedback to the organisers? Although the weather can't be guaranteed, the advertising sounds like it leaves a lot to be desired.
ReplyDeleteThank you xx. I think it has been going down a while from what I heard, I think it needs someone with more ideas and enthusiasm .....
DeletePattypan - it doesn't take much to lead me astray, especially in a craft or book shop!!
ReplyDeleteBTW I forgot to say how wonderful your stall looked. You obviously worked incredibly hard to get all that stock together - it looks beautiful.
Such a shame that Saturday didn't go well, the weather can have odd effects cant it, sometimes sun keeps people away and rain brings them out and vice versa, you never know! I think that Christmas music and a bit of jollity helps too though, gets people in the sprit doesn't it. Your stall looks beautiful! I would have bought something if I had come! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy....weather can swing it one way or another..at least Little Miss enjoyed herself and I did have fun making the bits.xx
DeleteHi Maria, your stall looked lovely, such a shame about the weather, but maybe more people would have ventured out if there had been more advertising and a Santa and some christmassy music to get people into the mood! And as you say, at least Little Miss enjoyed herself!! Good luck with the next one you do, you have worked so hard you deserve lots of sales!
